Sen. Doug Jones Deserves National Support from Democrats

No U.S. Senator deserves reelection more than Doug Jones. No U.S. Senator has a slimmer chance than Doug Jones.

Through a remarkable turn of events, Jones became Alabama’s Senator after defeating child molester Roy Moore in a special election. It was a nearly one in a million shot to get a Democrat to represent Alabama but it happened.

During his time in office, Jones has been every bit the decent, honest man you would expect from a prosecutor who put the KKK in jail. While he will never be confused with his progressive counterparts from the coasts, he has supported Democrats on every key issue. Unlike other Alabama representatives, Jones is vehemently against racism and actually fights for his constituents.

At no point was the impact of Jones felt greater than during the impeachment hearing earlier this year. There was concern that a Democrat would cross party lines to “acquit” Trump since it was clear that Republicans were in the tank for Trump’s illegal activity. The conversation centered on two Senators from red States — Jones and Sen. Manchin from West Virginia. Of the two, it made sense to many that Jones would flip as he is up for re-election this year in a very red state.
